ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN FOR AWARENESS AND MOTIVATION

WORKING WOMEN OF INFORMAL SECTORS

Since its inception in 2007, AWAM has dedicated itself to empowering working women [of informal sectors], focusing on domestic and home-based workers. By organizing small groups, AWAM educates these workers about their rights, facilitates their civic registration, and advocates for their access to social security benefits and social protection schemes. Our efforts extend to influencing authorities and decision-makers, pressing for the recognition of these workers and the allocation of resources to support them.

Furthermore, AWAM collaborates with trade unions, ensuring that the issues facing women in the informal sector are included in broader labor agendas. We are also proud participants in movements such as HomeNet Pakistan and HomeNet South Asia, which are committed to advocating for the rights of women home-based workers.

A key part of our strategy involves engaging with the media and various news concerns to amplify our call for the rights of working women. This engagement is crucial for drawing the attention of lawmakers and enforcers, urging them to introduce and implement legal protections and social protection schemes for these vulnerable workers.
