ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN FOR AWARENESS AND MOTIVATION

Women Home Based & Domestic works Groups

AWAM (Association of Women for Awareness and Motivation) committed to empowering marginalized groups, with a specific focus on women engaged in the informal labor sector, including domestic workers and home-based workers. The organization operates primarily in low-income urban areas such as Warispura, Barkatpura, Daud Nagar, Chaman Zar Colony, Ibn-E-Marriam Colony, Samanabad, Galalipur, Nawabawala, and Khushaal Town—regions predominantly inhabited by Christian communities. AWAM’s initiatives are designed to address systemic inequalities by bridging the gap between marginalized populations and state institutions. Key activities include the formation of women’s groups within these communities, facilitating access to social protection schemes, and ensuring civic registration through both guidance and financial assistance for obtaining essential documents like CNICs and birth certificates.

AWAM further strengthens its impact by conducting comprehensive surveys of home-based and domestic workers, organizing awareness sessions on International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, and identifying gaps in legislation and institutional frameworks. The organization also amplifies the voices of these workers by celebrating national and international days relevant to their cause, organizing rallies to advocate for their rights, and documenting their demands to push for immediate institutional action.

These efforts underscore the significant yet often overlooked contributions of informal workers to the economy. Through its multifaceted approach, AWAM strives to foster inclusivity, equity, and institutional accountability, ensuring that marginalized women are empowered, their rights are protected, and their voices are heard at both community and policy levels.
