This program focused on addressing the educational and civic gaps experienced by disadvantaged youth who are often excluded from formal education systems and state mechanisms. Recognizing their potential as active agents of change, the initiative worked to enhance their awareness regarding education, technical skills, and civic rights—laying a foundation for long-term empowerment and community participation.
The project began with the identification of numerous out-of-school youth across underserved localities, prioritizing those from Christian communities who face multiple layers of marginalization. Through a series of interactive awareness sessions, AWAM emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education as a pathway toward economic independence. These sessions were designed not only to inform youth about alternative educational opportunities but also to motivate them to envision brighter, self-reliant futures.
In addition to promoting education, the program focused on civic empowerment. Participants were educated about their constitutional Right to Information under Article 19A, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to hold authorities accountable. Youth were trained to draft and file RTI requests to relevant government departments, enabling them to formally engage with state institutions. This included raising concerns over pressing community issues such as clean drinking water, sanitation, waste management, and illegal encroachments.
The impact of this initiative was twofold: it successfully created awareness about the value of technical education among low-literate youth and encouraged civic engagement to demand improvements in basic services. By transforming passive youth into proactive citizens, AWAM’s initiative cultivated a new generation of informed individuals who can advocate for their rights and contribute meaningfully to community development. This approach underscores AWAM’s commitment to inclusive, rights-based progress that reaches even the most neglected segments of society
